Moving plants from one location to another is tricky at the best of times, and double so when moving from a cool location to a a warm one. In the last two weeks I found out just how much trouble it can be. When we moved from Pittsburgh the average temperature was 60 and cloudy. The Atlanta weather was mid 80s and bright sun. Even with watering three times a day, the plants suffered. The first two days I resorted to putting newspaper over them to protect them from the sun. Alas some of the them still did not make it. Perhaps there is clay where I put them, and that may have caused waterlogging or the transplant shock was too much for them. The toll so far is one hellebore (rotted),and several that are dubious (one elderberry, two hydrangeas the rosemary and one pieris). The good news is that there is a great nursery within minutes of the new house.
