Some of my transplanted daylilies are blooming. This rather surprised me as they have only been in the ground 6 weeks, but they are blooming anyway. I hope that by next year many more will be blooming. Several of the daylilies that I brought down with me have never bloomed. They were in too much shade and daylilies need sun to bloom. They will even bloom in part sun, but they will never thrive in full shade.
My little Betony (Stachys officinalis 'Nana') is also in bloom. I divided this plant before I planted it so now I have three little guys that next year will be much larger plants to complete the corner of the intended herb garden. This betony came from Ohio, then Indiana to Pennsylvania and now Georgia. It has traveled more than some people! Over that time it has slowly got larger, so it was definitely time for it to be divided.
The the two Pieris japonicas are also showing signs of new growth. One was struggling and I thought it might not make it, but I noticed today that there are some bright red leaves just emerging. This guy clearly has had a hard time of getting settled, but it is a hardy shrub that will be fine now, so long as I don't forget to keep a check on it. It would be a disaster to loose it now! Until I was in Pennsylvania I was unaware of how wonderful this shrub is. It is truly a trouper in the plant world.
